Weight Loss. Who hasn't thought about it, tried it, succeeded and failed?
What works for us at one time in our life might not work during another time. Our schedules change, our bodies change, what we need and want changes.
The key to success for me has been Routine.
Routine takes the emotion out of wondering what to do or how to do it.
If your Routine is to have a healthy smoothie and vitamins each day, you don't have to agonize over what do eat -- you already decided.
If your Routine is to go to martial arts class 3 times a week, you don't debate most days, you just go.
If your Routine is to walk the dog daily, you just make time and off you go.
Routine is what you do most days. You might miss a day occasionally, or have interruptions, but Routine resumes eventually. Routine becomes Habit.
In psychology we know that it takes 21 days to form a new Habit. To reach new Goals, we need new Habits, which will become our Routine.
My Routine has shifted lately. I need a new one.
As I consider finishing up my PhD, starting a new formal position with the company with which I have consulted for over 4 years, I am also considering my options for creating new Habits to reach my Goals. I am planning my new Routine.
As new employee, the company gym (state of the art) will be available to me. I am planning lunchtime workouts.
I prepare my vitamins ahead of time -- placing them in small baggies -- so that they are easy to carry and quick to take.
What we do MOST DAYS determines our results.
Examine your Goals, your Habits, and your Routine.
Is it taking you where you want to go?
